Name : NRA Range Safety Officer Course

Short Description : Develops NRA Certified Range Safety Officers with the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations.

More Details: This course is nine hours long and is conducted in a classroom and at a shooting facility. Range Safety Officer candidates will learn roles and responsibilities of an RSO; Range Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); range inspection; range rules; range briefings; emergency procedures; and firearm stoppages and malfunctions. Each Range Safety Officer Candidate will receive an RSO Student Study Guide, a Basic Firearm Training Program brochure, an NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, an Instructor Application/Course Evaluation form.

NRA Chief Range Safety Officer Course

NRA Chief Range Safety Officers are people who possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations. This course requires the NRA Range Safety Officer certifications as a prerequisite. The successful completion of this course will allow individuals to educate, train, and certify NRA Range Safety Officers.

*This course does not encompass the functions and responsibilities of a Range Officer, who conducts NRA competitive shooting events as defined by Rule 11.5 of the NRA Rule Books.

The Range Safety Officer course which Chief Range Safety Officers instruct consists of:
• Range Safety Officer’s roles and responsibilities
• Range standard operating procedures
• Range inspection and range rules
• Firearm stoppages and malfunctions
• Range Safety Briefings which include emergency procedures

This is an Instructor Course and is open to experienced shooters only. The NRA Chief Range Safety Officer Training Course is designed to teach experienced individuals how to teach others to supervise range safety and shooting using the NRA lesson plans and training methods. You may be asked to demonstrate your firearm knowledge and skills during pre-course assessment exercises. Participation in this course does not guarantee certification as an NRA Chief Range Safety Officer.

NRA Home Firearm Safety Course

The NRA Home Firearm Safety Course is a non-shooting course and teaches students the basic knowledge, skills, and to explain the attitude necessary for the safe handling and storage of firearms and ammunition in the home.

This is a four to five hour course for safe gun handling that is conducted in the classroom only. Students are taught NRA’s three rules for safe gun handling; primary causes of firearms accidents; firearm parts; how to unload certain action types; ammunition components; cleaning; care; safe storage of firearms in the home; and the benefits of becoming an active participant in the shooting sports. Students will receive the NRA Home Firearm Safety handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Basic Firearm Training Program brochure, and course completion certificate.
